Melbourne named Australia's best student city in QS ranking

Melbourne has reaffirmed its status as Australia's premier student city following the release of QS's 2025 Best Student Cities Ranking.

Melbourne has been ranked as the world's fifth-best student city and continues to be the top choice for international students in Australia. Universities in Melbourne include The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University, La Trobe University and Victoria University.

The QS Best Student Cities index evaluates cities based on affordability, quality of life, university standards, and diversity. Melbourne's rise to the top spot in the Student Mix indicator, which measures on-campus diversity, is particularly noteworthy. This achievement is reflected in the state's impressive enrollment figures, with 287,000 international students from approximately 175 countries choosing to study in Victoria. Furthermore, Melbourne ranks second in the Student View indicator, which assesses student experience across various categories, including tolerance and inclusion, transport, affordability, nightlife, and employment opportunities.

Tim Pallas, Victoria's Minister for Economic Growth, said: "It's no surprise Melbourne has once again proven to be Australia's top destination for international students.
